Management and Governance experience 2003/4
In country project manager and expedition leader, Negros Rainforest Conservation
Project, Philippines
Acted as in country project co-ordinator and liaison officer with local project partner Negros Forest Ecological Foundation Inc. Managed permanent Filipino staff, UK and Filipino voluntary staff and project volunteers. Ensured the project budget, plant and equipment were in line with organisational expectations. Ensured safe operating protocols were implemented and scientific data was collected with rigor. Developed environmental projects with the local community e.g. farming schemes, health issues training, local school visits.
2002/3 Deputy Director and Head of Biodiversity
and Life-long Learning, Sheffield Wildlife Trust Managed and developed the Trust's biodiversity conservation, education and training functions, particularly the existing nature reserves programme, ecological survey programme, biodiversity action planning and policy work, education programme, education day centre and training programme - securing funds, planning and ensuring delivery of agreed outputs. Represented the trust with a range of relevant regional and national organisations.
2001/2 Education Service Manager, Lake District National Park Authority Managed the Field Studies Council contract to deliver the National Park Authority Education Service. Managed and developed the Lake District National Park Education Service, supported the delivery and evaluation of education courses from primary level up to undergraduates and teachers’ In Service Training. Developed the Service as a recognised leader in environmental education in the Lake District.
1998 – 2000 Director of Centre,
Malham Tarn Field Centre, Field Studies Council Malham
Tarn Field Centre is Britain’s oldest upland field centre.
A Grade 2 listed building surrounded by a National Nature Reserve
and Ramsar site. Managed this 85 bed residential centre and a large
building refurbishment of the field centre. Took the organisation successfully
through the 'Investors in people' process.
